Chivas USA sigue soñando!, Chivas wins third straight!

At The Home Depot Center, Chivas USA captured its third straight win by defeating the Columbus Crew 2-0 on first-half goals by Jorge Flores (20’) and Jesse Marsch (21’). The match marked the third straight in which the 34-year-old Marsch (31 career MLS goals) and 18-year-old Flores (3 career MLS goals) have scored for Chivas USA.

Columbus played the final 68 minutes a man down after Danny O’Rourke’s red-card foul on Atiba Harris, who required five stitches in the locker room at halftime.

The match was Chivas USA’s first three-game winning streak since August 2007, the year in which the team finished atop the Western Conference.

“I thought we fully deserved to win tonight. From the get-go I thought we were sharp; we executed the way we wanted to play. We were winning every second ball, I thought we were dominating the play, we created a couple of good opportunities and it was just a matter of time when we were going to break them down,” Preki said after the game.

Chivas USA earns first road win with 2-1 victory over Colorado

On a cool Saturday night in Commerce City, Chivas USA took its first road win of the season in a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Co. The team improved it’s record to 3-4-2 (W-L-T) on the season, and 1-2-2 on the road.

Midfielder Jorge Flores headed home game-winner in the 79th minute off a Carey Talley free kick. It was the second goal of the 2007 Sueño MLS winner’s career, in just his third ever match and first game as a starter. It was also Flores’ second goal in as many games, after he scored in the 82nd minute against D.C. United on May 17.

Chivas USA took a 2-0 lead after Flores’ goal, but kept the lead for less than a minute before Tom McManus fired home a shot from distance to bring the game to 2-1. Brad Guzan made seven saves on the night, and the goalkeeper and backline held firm for the victory.

Defender Carey Talley made his first appearance for Chivas USA, starting the match at right back and playing the full 90 minutes, assisting on the game-winning goal.

Chivas USA head coach Preki, on the match: “I thought the overall performance of the whole team was pretty good; we knew what we wanted to get here and we got it. We’ve got good momentum right now and hopefully next week against Columbus we can get another three points.”

The Red-and-White’s next home game is on Saturday, May 31 at The Home Depot Center, when it looks to avenge an early-season loss vs. the Columbus Crew.
