The Red-and-White is still perfect in 2009 at The Home Depot Center having won its previous three home matches against Colorado Rapids (2-1), Columbus Crew (2-1) and Seattle Sounders (2-0).

Tonight was the first time Toronto got a positive result against Chivas USA since the Red-and-White had won all four previous meetings between the clubs.
Chivas USA has not yet kept the same starting lineup for any of the six games thus far this season.
Chivas USA Head Coach Preki, on tonight’s match: “It was a tough game. Different and difficult conditions, bouncy, windy. We fought but at the end we came short. I thought that they might have been a little bit luckier than us and may be slightly better than us and they got three points…I think we were a little soft on the play (the goal). They got a lucky bounce. We should’ve done better”. (For a full quote sheet, please visit cdchivasusa.com.)

Quotes from Kljestan and Thornton

Chivas USA has only allowed two goals in five games so far in the 2009 season. Midfielder Sacha Kljestan and goalkeeper Zach Thornton told the Toronto media the following about this year’s defense:

Kljestan:
“I think it’s the discipline and the attitude we have when we come on the field. As a unit, our four midfielders and our four defenders know that we work hard for each other so that if we get off our positions we have guys that run hard to make it up. I think we all cover each other’s backs…”

Thornton:
“The guys have done a very great job, they’ve closed down spaces, they’ve defended well, and they’ve made my job a lot easier… all the credit goes to the guys in front of me.
We have confidence in our team… the main thing is to keep it going. We always look forward to the next challenge.”
