Super Clásico Fact of the Day: First Win
Chivas USA’s first-ever win over the Galaxy in a Honda Super Clásico match came in the sixth meeting between the clubs in MLS play. The Galaxy had topped the Red-and-White in the first five encounters, including all four in 2005 and a come-from-behind, 2-1 victory in the last ten minutes of the first match of 2006.
The sixth MLS meeting between the clubs came on June 8, 2006. Ante Razov scored in the 15th and 21st minutes of the match for the Red-and-White, and despite a 27th minute goal from the Galaxy’s Herculez Gomez, Chivas USA held on for its first-ever Super Clásico victory. Including that match, the teams are an even 3-3-5 after the first five games of the series.
Chivas USA’s first-ever (and only) season series victory came in 2007, when the Red-and-White went 2-1-1 in the four games between the clubs to earn the Honda Super Clásico trophy.
