Chivas USA (8-7-3) fell 4-0 tonight to the Colorado Rapids (8-6-6) at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Denver, Colorado before 13,364 fans.
With the result, Chivas USA remains with 27 points and is fifth in the Western Conference, one point behind the Seattle Sounders, in fourth, and three points behind Colorado, in third place. Both Seattle and Colorado have played two more games than the Red-and-White.

Pablo Mastroeni scored for the home team with barely one minute into the match on a 20-yard shot into the upper right corner of the net. Conor Casey scored Colorado’s second goal three minutes later when he chipped Chivas USA goalkeeper Lance Parker from the right wing. Casey scored his second goal of the night in a run by Omar Cummings, who passed him the ball and Casey put it into the back of the net. Just before halftime, Shavar Thomas picked up a straight red card after he took down a Colorado player in a play very close to the edge of the box. Casey took the penalty and converted his third goal of the match.
Chivas USA goalkeeper Lance Parker made his MLS debut with the Red-and-White, after appearing in SuperLiga games 2008 2009, and the US Open Cup in 2009. Midfielder Marcelo Saragosa played his first game with the Red-and-White after being traded from FC Dallas on July 17, 2009.
Colorado beat Chivas USA at home for the first time since the 2-1 win at Mile High Stadium in the first meeting ever between both teams in Colorado on May 14, 2005.
Post-Game Audio from Chivas USA players including Jesse Marsch, Marcelo Saragosa, Maykel Galindo, Ante
Chivas USA Head Coach Preki, on tonight’s match: “The game was over in the first fifteen minutes of the game. It all came from us. From the kick-off we had the possession. We turned the ball over in our half. Pablo (Mastroeni) was by himself… it was a good shot… that’s how it goes sometimes. Then we give another one in the first five minutes and that was it. Our destiny is in our hands, hopefully we’ll learn from this game. ”
Chivas USA will visit the New York Red Bulls on August 15, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. ET (4:00 p.m. PT) in the last of three consecutive away games.
