Through fierce support of Chivas USA that helped their club capture seven of a possible nine points from Conference rivals Sounders FC, the Union Ultras have won the 2009 ACES Cup.

The ACES Cup is a fan based competition that awards a trophy and cash prize to MLS fan groups based on their club’s overall goal differential against Sounders FC. Chivas USA’s three goal differential was enough to separate them from the runner up New England Revolution.

“We stand in [section] 101 right behind the goal so that our presence is known no matter if the visiting team is attacking or defending.” Said Julio Ramos, a Union Ultras representative “Whether it is huge banners or just constant noise, the players know we’re there and that is what matters.”

On Thursday, Oct. 29, four Chivas USA players celebrated Halloween with hundreds students at Compton Elementary School in Compton from 1:30-2:30 p.m. PT. The players were in costume and spoke to the school children on a variety of topics, ranging from good health to celebrating Halloween safely.

The players brought gifts and signed autographs for the Compton students, along with the ChivaGirls and Chivas USA’s mascot, the ChivaFighter. Chivas USA will face the LA Galaxy on Sunday, Nov. 1 at 2:00 p.m. in the first ever Playoff Super Clásico, and took this opportunity to celebrate an early Halloween with local students.

Chivas USA will play the second leg of the series, which will be an LA Galaxy home game, the following Sunday, Nov. 8 at 4:30 p.m. PT, also at The Home Depot Center. The Red-and-White finished the season with a record of 13-11-6 (W-L-T) for 45 points and fourth place in the Western Conference. The Galaxy ended in first place in the division with a 12-6-12 record and 48 points, just three points ahead of Chivas USA.

Chivas USA fell to the Chicago Fire by a 1-0 score on a cold, rainy Thursday night in Bridgeview, Ill. The Red-and-White, who have already clinched a spot in the MLS Cup Playoffs, now return home for the final match of the regular season, facing the Houston Dynamo on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 12:00 noon PT at The Home Depot Center.
