Chivas USA fell to FC Dallas by a 2-1 score in a hard-fought game at The Home Depot Center on Saturday night. The Red-and-White have no time to dwell on the setback, and now look to Tuesday’s U.S. Open Cup match in Fullerton, Calif., and next Saturday night’s home match against the Philadelphia Union in Carson.
Osael Romero scored his first goal for Chivas USA in the 59th minute, when a deflected cross from Mariano Trujillo bounded toward Dallas goalkeeper Kevin Hartman. Romero was able to get to the ball first and flicked a header past Hartman to tie the game at one. Trujillo’s assist was his fourth of the season, leading the team in the category.
FC Dallas had taken the lead in the first half on an own goal by Ante Jazic, and regained its advantage almost immediately after Romero’s goal for Chivas USA. A foul in the box gave Dallas a penalty kick, and David Ferreira finished from the spot in the 61st minute.
With the loss, Chivas USA falls to 3-9-1 on the season, and with 10 points are in last place in the Western Conference. The team has lost six straight matches, with the team’s last positive result being a 4-0 win at the New England Revolution on May 5.
Chivas USA defender and captain Jonathan Bornstein played 120 minutes in the United States National Team’s 2-1 loss to Ghana in the World Cup on Saturday. Head Coach Martín Vásquez said after the match that he expects Bornstein to rejoin the Red-and-White in the coming week.

The Red-and-White will return to the practice field on Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. PT on Field 6 at The Home Depot Center. On Tuesday night, the team takes on the Austin Aztex at Titan Stadium in Fullerton in U.S. Open Cup action at 7:30 p.m. PT. Chivas USA media credentials used for MLS matches will be accepted at the match.
Next home game: Following Tuesday night’s Open Cup match in Fullerton, Chivas USA play at The Home Depot Center next Saturday, July 3, at 7:30 p.m. PT against the Philadelphia Union, complete with a post game fireworks display. La actividad de la Major League Soccer se reanuda este fin de semana tras el descanso mundialista y en un partido de seis puntos, Chivas USA enfrentará al FC Dallas en la Conferencia Oeste.
Chivas USA (3-8-1) pretenderá cortar una racha de cinco derrotas consecutivas cuando reciba a partir de las 7:30 p.m. PT al cuadro texano (3-2-6) en El Home Depot Center de Carson, California. El equipo Rojiblanco buscará remediar sus problemas en el ataque pues han quedado en cero durante tres de sus últimas cinco derrotas. La mala racha del conjunto de Chivas USA los ubica en la octava posición de la Conferencia Oeste con 10 puntos en 12 encuentros.
El FC Dallas también ha tenido dificultades para encontrar su juego esta temporada, pues apenas tienen tres victorias en la temporada y están empatados en sexto lugar en la Conferencia Oeste con 15 puntos en 11 juegos.
“El equipo está bien. Estamos consientes de nuestra realidad, de nuestra situación. Este descanso nos vino bien para reflexionar varias cosas y para darnos cuenta de que tenemos la oportunidad de estar donde queremos, pero mentalmente creo que el equipo se ha fortalecido”, dijo Mariano Trujillo, defensa de Chivas USA.
Chivas USA firmó el viernes al mediocampista brasileño Paulo Nagamura, aunque no podrá estar en el partido de mañana ya que tendrá que esperar que se abra la venta de transferencia de jugadores internacionales el próximo 15 de julio. Con el que si podrá contar es con el arquero Zach Thornton, suspendido por expulsión ante el D.C. United y sirvió su partido de castigo en el partido ante los Red Bulls de Nueva York.
Chivas USA comenzará una larga sesión de juegos en fila, cuando el martes enfrente al Austin Aztex en el debut de la Copa Abierta de los Estados Unidos 2010 en el Titan Stadium de Fullerton.

Chivas USA anunció el viernes que el mediocampista Paulo Nagamura, quien anotó ocho goles y tuvo siete asistencias en 73 partidos jugados con los Rojiblancos de 2007 a 2009, firmó nuevamente con Chivas USA. Después de una estadía de de seis meses, con el equipo de Primera División Tigres de la UANL, el medio de contención podrá jugar con Chivas USA, dependiendo del recibo de su pase internacional, cuando se abra la ventana de transferencias internacionales el próximo 15 de julio. Por política del equipo y de la liga, los términos de su contrato no fueron revelados.
