With Mariano Trujillo set to miss his first MLS regular season minutes of the season, and with Jonathan Bornstein likely still recovering from a knee strain, Chivas USA will have to turn to a new captain in the absense of those two leaders.
After practice today, Martin Vasquez addressed the question:
“In that [SuperLiga] game in Houston, when Jonny B. came out, Ante [Jazic] wore the armband. We feel that he’s a guy that we’ll look to lead us and wear the armband tomorrow.”
As for Mariano missing his first minutes, Vasquez also saw a potential replacement, at least for Saturday:
“We’re going to have to adjust. I think we’ve used Carlos Borja already in three or four games, and I think he has taken advantage of the opportunities and done well, especially in Houston in the 1-1 game. So we’re looking at Carlos to play for Mariano.”
