A little while ago we were able to catch up with Vampire Weekend drummer Chris Tomson, a big soccer fan who wore a Chivas Guadalajara jersey in the video for their hit single “Cousins.” Here’s the audio from our interview with the New York native, who was at the NY/NJ MetroStars first match all the way back in 1996.

On Thursday, Oct. 29, four Chivas USA players celebrated Halloween with hundreds students at Compton Elementary School in Compton from 1:30-2:30 p.m. PT. The players were in costume and spoke to the school children on a variety of topics, ranging from good health to celebrating Halloween safely.
The players brought gifts and signed autographs for the Compton students, along with the ChivaGirls and Chivas USA’s mascot, the ChivaFighter. Chivas USA will face the LA Galaxy on Sunday, Nov. 1 at 2:00 p.m. in the first ever Playoff Super Clásico, and took this opportunity to celebrate an early Halloween with local students.

Chivas USA fell by a 2-1 score to Tigres UANL of the Mexican First Division in the opening match of SuperLiga 2009 for both teams. A goal in the 82nd minute from Jesus Dueñas gave Tigres the win, which tied the Mexican club for first place in Group A with the Chicago Fire, who beat San Luis 1-0 also on Saturday night.
Chivas USA midfielder Michael Lahoud scored his first professional goal to tie the game at one the 55th minute for the Red-and-White, finishing at the far post off a ball played by midfielder Bojan Stepanovic. Tigres had opened the scoring in minute 11 when Armando Pulido scored on a bicycle kick from 15 yards.
The Red-and-White were forced to play the final 23 minutes of the match down a man after forward Eduardo Lillingston received his second yellow card for a foul in midfield. Lillingston will miss Chivas USA’s next SuperLiga match, this Tuesday at the Chicago Fire.
Chivas USA has two matches left in the group stage of SuperLiga 2009, with the first coming this Tuesday in Chicago against the Fire, and the final match of the stage against Mexico’s San Luis next Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at The Home Depot Center.
Chivas USA Head Coach Preki, on tonight’s match: “You want to win every time you step on the field, and in the meantime you’ve got to give an opportunity to some of the younger guys. Some of our younger guys in the second half came in, [Michael] Lahoud and Jorge Flores, and they gave us some energy, so we are looking forward to getting some more of that. Chivas USA opens its second consecutive participation in SuperLiga tomorrow, facing Tigres UANL of the Mexican First Division at 7:00 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. The match is the first meeting between the two clubs in official competition, and comes in the third edition of the SuperLiga, the annual tournament which pits top soccer teams from Mexico and the United States against each other for local bragging rights and one of the biggest purses in the region.
