Some Trivia about Columbus Crew
The Name: Columbus Crew
Their name, “the Crew”, was a result of a local fan contest. Prior to the first MLS season, there was a citywide public contest held to decide for the team’s name. The first entry for the contest was a hit (liked by a lot of people), hence, they decided to name their team Columbus Crew.

The Team Color: Black and gold
Other people might mistake it as black and yellow. But it is really black and gold. The team’s primary jersey has been predominantly bright yellow in color, with black trimmings, which was called by their fans as the “canary kit” or “banana kit”.

The team’s alternate jersey or kit is black, although this one is seldom worn by the team because a lot of their fans and the members prefer the yellow home kit. Another reason is because the color black absorbs more heat thus they feel more uncomfortable wearing it
especially during summer. That is why they occasionally wear their black kit.

However, in the year 2007, Columbus Crew hasn’t worn their black or yellow jersey. Instead, they wore a predominantly white jersey shirt with yellow trimmings. And in the year 1887, they wore a white jersey with yellow and black striped trimmings – reminds you of a bumblebee
right? Hence, it was called bumblebee-type sleeves.

Team Mascot: Crew Cat
It is not a real cat species. It is just what they call their mascot. A cat wearing Columbus Crew’s uniform and trademark hard hat. Hence the name of the mascot, Crew Cat. Although not a real cat, the Crew Cat is considered to be the most famous feline in the Central Ohio.
