Kljestan without Champions League…

There will be no UEFA Champions League for American Sacha Kljestan. In a cruel blow to its ambitions, Belgian champion Anderlecht was knocked of the competition when it fell to Serbian club Partizan, 3-2, on penalty kicks in Brussels after the clubs played to a 2-2 tie for the second time.

Red-and-White falls at Pizza Hut Park

Chivas USA fell by a score of 1-0 against FC Dallas on Saturday night at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas. It was the eighth time the Red-and-White loses by a margin of one goal during league-play. With the result, Chivas USA (5-11-4) remains with 19 points, while FC Dallas (9-2-9) now has 36 points, good for third place in the Western Conference.

FC Dallas, a team that has only lost once at Pizza Hut Park in 2010, scored the only goal of the match at the 71st minute when Dallas’ Brek Shea won a header on a perfect cross from Jair Benitez and put it over the head of Chivas USA goalkeeper Zach Thornton and inside the far post. Dallas has an unbeaten streak of 11 games and is 6-1-3 at home this season.

The Red-and-White had a total of 12 shots during the match but Dallas goalkeeper Kevin Hartman, who leads the league on saves percentage, was key in maintaining the Red-and-White scoreless with three important saves during the match, two of them on very dangerous headers by defenders Michael Umaña and Darío Delgado during the second half.

Midfielder Sal Sizzo made his debut with the Red-and-White at the 82nd minute when he substituted Ante Jazic in the match. Chivas USA won the MLS special lottery for the rights to the U.S. midfielder last month.

The Red-and-White will travel back to Los Angeles on Sunday and will resume training on Monday. Chivas USA will face D.C. United on Sunday, August 29, at 7:00 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. There will be a Rally Towel giveaway courtesy of State Farm to the first 10,000 fans and a Zach Thornton commemorative poster to the first 5,000 fans. For more information, or to purchase tickets, please call 1-877-CHIVAS-1 or visit cdchivasusa.com.

CHIVACLÁSICO: Chivas USA will face Chivas de Guadalajara on Tuesday, September 14th at 8:00 p.m. PT at PETCO Park in San Diego, Calif. It will be the second time the Red-and-White faces Guadalajara on U.S. soil. Tickets for this historic event are on sale now at cdchivasusa.com.
