 FC Dallas, a team that has only lost once at Pizza Hut Park in 2010, scored the only goal of the match at the 71^st minute when Dallas’ Brek Shea won a header on a perfect cross from Jair Benitez and put it over the head of Chivas USA goalkeeper Zach Thornton and inside the far post. Dallas has an unbeaten streak of 11 games and is 6-1-3 at home this season.   

The Red-and-White had a total of 12 shots during the match but Dallas goalkeeper Kevin Hartman, who leads the league on saves percentage, was key in maintaining the Red-and-White scoreless with three important saves during the match, two of them on very dangerous headers by defenders Michael Umaña and Darío Delgado during the second half.

Midfielder Sal Sizzo made his debut with the Red-and-White at the 82^nd minute when he substituted Ante Jazic in the match. Chivas USA won the MLS special lottery for the rights to the U.S. midfielder last month. 

 The Red-and-White will travel back to Los Angeles on Sunday and will resume training on Monday. Chivas USA will face D.C. United on Sunday, August 29, at 7:00 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. Forward Justin Braun opened the scoring for Chivas USA, scoring his team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 37^th minute. Recent acquisition Rodolfo Espinoza floated a cross into the box, and Braun rose above the defense to head home from 10 yards.

Just before halftime, the Red-and-White doubled their lead when rookie midfielder Blair Gavin took advantage of a Crew miscommunication to score his third goal of the year. A Dan Kennedy punt was misplayed by Columbus defenders, and Gavin slipped in to nick the ball past William Hesmer in the Crew goal in the 45^th minute.

In the second half, Chivas USA iced the game when Carlos Borja, who was filling in for Mariano Trujillo (suspended due to yellow card accumulation) at right back, scored his first career goal. After a corner kick was cleared, Ben Zemanski blasted the ball back into the box, and Giancarlo Maldonado chested the ball down for Borja to drive home from 15 yards.

It was a night of firsts for several members of the Red-and-White, as Espinoza, Darío Delgado, Zemanski and Maldonado all notched their first assists in MLS play, while Borja scored his first goal as a professional. All three goalscorers for Chivas USA were 23 years of age or younger.

The win improved Chivas USA’s record to 5-9-3 on the season, and 2-0-2 in the last four MLS regular season matches. In eight games (including U.S. Open Cup and SuperLiga) in the month of July, the Red-and-White had a 4-1-3 record.

Chivas USA Head Coach Martín Vásquez, on tonight’s match: “This has been our biggest win this year. From the first minute until the 90th, we played well. We scored some nice goals. We see some of our younger guys keep stepping up and some of our new players helping. The Red-and-White will take Sunday and Monday off before returning to training on Tuesday at The Home Depot Center. The team will travel on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s match against Toronto FC, the first time Chivas USA will take on former head coach Preki, now at the helm of the Canadian team. The match will kick off at 1:00 p.m. PT and will be broadcast live on Prime Ticket, TeleFutura, and W Radio 690 AM.

The Red Bulls scored the only goal of the match on a corner kick taken at the 27^th minute by Red Bulls midfielder Joel Lindpere. Chivas USA defender Darío Delgado cleared the ball through the middle but Stammler blasted a left-footed shot from outside the box to beat Dan Kennedy, who couldn’t do anything to stop the lower left hand corner shot. 

Chivas USA goalkeeper Dan Kennedy reappeared for the Red-and-White since April 2, 2010 (vs. LA Galaxy) after recuperating from a left hip strain injury. Goalkeeper Zach Thornton was suspended for tonight’s game after getting a red card during the last game against D.C. United.

 Alex Zotinca played his first match with Chivas USA after singing last Friday with the Red-and-White. Zotinca played his last Chivas USA match against Real Salt Lake on November 8, 2008 at the Home Depot Center during the 2008 MLS Cup Playoffs.

 The team will travel on Sunday morning to Los Angeles for a three-week MLS break due to the World Cup. Chivas USA will attempt to stop a five game losing streak when it faces FC Dallas on Saturday, June 26, at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. Before that, the Red-and-White will play the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, June 12, in the inaugural Sacramento Cup at Raley Field in West Sacramento. Kickoff for the match is scheduled for 7 p.m. PT.

Chivas USA fought back from a deficit but gave up a late goal, falling to the defending MLS Champion Real Salt Lake by a 2-1 score on Saturday night at The Home Depot Center. With the loss, the Red-and-White fall to 3-6-1 (W-L-T) on the season, good for 10 points.

At the end of an even first half, Salt Lake took the lead when Chris Wingert finished a low shot after collecting a ball that had ricocheted off the post. It was Wingert’s first career MLS goal in his 147^th match in the league.

Chivas USA forward Justin Braun, who had entered the match as a substitute in the 63^rd minute, scored a great goal to tie the game at one. Collecting a ball at the top of the box in minute 80, the Salt Lake City native turned and fired a half volley to the far post, past RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando. Braun now has three goals and two assists on the season, tied for the team lead in both categories.

 The Red-and-White could not hold the lead, however, as RSL’s Fabian Espindola received the ball behind the Chivas USA defense in the 89^th minute and fired a low shot past goalkeeper Zach Thornton.

 The match was the first for Chivas USA without team co-captains Jonathan Bornstein and Sacha Kljestan, who are currently with the United States National Team in Princeton, N.J. Both players are working to earn a spot on the U.S.’ final 23-player roster for the FIFA World Cup in South Africa, and the team will face the Czech Republic in a tune-up match on Wednesday.

 Chivas USA defender and Anaheim native Carlos Borja made the first start of his MLS career, and his second all-time appearance, playing 90 minutes at left back in place of Jonathan Bornstein.

The team will travel on Sunday morning to Lake Elsinore for the first ‘Practice in the Community’ of 2010, where the entire Chivas USA first team will hold an open training session for fans. The event, which will take place at Temescal Canyon High School at 28755 El Toro Road in Lake Elsinore, begins at 10:30 a.m. PT.

The Red-and-White next face D.C. United on the road, next Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET (4:30 p.m. PT), in a match that will be broadcast on Prime Ticket, KWHY, and W Radio 690 AM.

Chivas USA Head Coach Martín Vásquez, on tonight’s match: “We came out flat, and they took advantage. That was the difference. Playing against a team like Houston you can’t come out flat…. We created plays, but… we couldn’t tie the game.”
