Playoff-bound Chivas USA came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw with the San Jose Earthquakes at The Home Depot Center on Saturday night, moving temporarily into sole possession of first place in the Western Conference with a 13-9-6 record (45 points) ahead of tomorrow’s match between the LA Galaxy and the Houston Dynamo. The Red-and-White are now undefeated in six games with a 3-0-3 record.
The Red-and-White took a 1-0 lead in the 7th minute when Maykel Galindo took a long through ball from Sacha Kljestan and finished low past San Jose goalkeeper Andrew Weber. The Earthquakes then scored two unanswered goals on headers, one from Brandon McDonald in the 21st minute, and another in minute 58 from Ryan Johnson.

Chivas USA forward Justin Braun tied the game at two in the 66th minute, knocking a header past Weber off an Ante Jazic cross. The Red-and-White had several chances in the final minutes, and outshot San Jose 20-8 on the night, but were unable to find the winning goal.
With the tie, the Red-and-White moved into first place in the Western Conference, one point ahead of the LA Galaxy and the Houston Dynamo, who play in Houston on Sunday. Chivas USA has two games left in the regular season; visiting the Chicago Fire on Thursday, Oct. 22 before returning to The Home Depot Center for Fan Appreciation Day on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 12:00 noon PT.
With the Red-and-White already having clinched a spot in the postseason, playoff tickets are now on sale with prices at the same rates as the regular season. Great seats start as low as $15; fans can purchase tickets by visiting cdchivasusa.com, or by calling 1-877-CHIVAS-1.
Chivas USA Head Coach Preki, on tonight’s match: “In the second half, there were all kind of changes, we changed the system a little bit, we changed the players a little bit… I think we responded pretty good and we increased the tempo and got ourselves a goal.”
Chivas USA will have Sunday and Monday off before training at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at The Home Depot Center and traveling later in the day to Chicago. After facing the Fire on Thursday, the Red-and-White will return to Los Angeles on Friday and train Saturday at 10:00 a.m. before Sunday’s game against Houston.
